The standard of one “selamim” (half of one eighth of a bushel) visible in this display case is a volume measure made of bronze. It has a parallelepiped shape and a smooth base.
The height of the piece is 8.1 cm and each side measures 11.6 cm.
On one side is engraved the Coat of Arms of Portugal (Latin shield with five escutcheons loaded with five bezants and bordure with seven castles, surmounted by a closed royal crown). On the opposite side there are several inscriptions: “R / L V / SEBAS / TIANVS / I / A.S 1575” inside a stripe superimposed on a diagonal arrow.
This standard, dated 1575, also has the Lisbon ship engraved, which indicates compliance with the Lisbon standard.
