This standard of one “quarta” (quarter), in bronze, has a parallelepiped shape and a smooth base. It has two opposing wings, decorated with affronted scrolls and stylized floral motifs.
The piece has a height of 12 cm and each side measures 18.5 cm.
The Coat of Arms of Portugal (a Latin shield with five escutcheons loaded with five bezants and a border with seven castles, surmounted by a closed royal crown) is engraved on one side. On the opposite side, several inscriptions are engraved:
“R / L V / SEBAS / TIANVS / .I. / .A. .S. / 1575”.
This standard, dated 1575, also has the Lisbon ship engraved, which indicates compliance with the Lisbon standard.
